Solutions Architect (Toronto, remote)

Remote - Canada

|

Permanent / Full Time

Our client in Toronto, a financial services organization, is seeking a Solutions Architect with deep expertise in application architecture within a Microsoft-centric environment. The successful candidate will design and govern scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across Azure, working closely with product and engineering teams while ensuring compliance, privacy, and governance expectations are met in a regulated setting.

This is a permanent, full-time role. Fully remote within Canada, but you'll need to work Eastern Time business hours. Slight preference for candidates in or around the Toronto area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architecture & Solution Design: Define and deliver robust, scalable, and secure solution architectures for business capabilities (e.g., onboarding, customer experiences, workflow automation, governance-driven features).
  • Azure-first Architecture Patterns: Establish and apply Azure-first patterns and reference architectures (identity, networking, secrets, resiliency, observability, performance) for modern application delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Delivery Collaboration: Partner with product, design, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to shape requirements into executable architecture, delivery plans, and clear technical direction.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Guide engineering teams through architecture decision-making, conduct design reviews, and raise engineering maturity through standards and best practices.
  • Governance, Risk, and Compliance: Ensure solutions align with architecture governance and regulatory expectations, including security standards, privacy requirements, and compliance obligations relevant to financial services (e.g., MFDA, PIPEDA, Law 25).
  • Data-Aware Architecture: Collaborate with data/platform teams on solution designs that touch data governance, quality, and lifecycle management, ensuring application decisions support enterprise data controls (without turning the role into a "data architect" job in disguise).
  • Vendor & Third-Party Systems: Provide architecture oversight for vendor platforms and third-party applications, including solution evaluations, design alignment, delivery coordination, and shared accountability.
  • DevOps & Delivery Enablement: Champion modern delivery practices including Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD (e.g., Azure DevOps), ensuring solutions are buildable, deployable, and operable.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in solution architecture, with a strong emphasis on application architecture in enterprise environments.
  • Financial services industry experience (mandatory).
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and delivering solutions on Azure.
  • Proven ability to align business priorities to technical roadmaps, balancing delivery speed with security, quality, and long-term maintainability.
  • Experience leading architecture governance and design reviews across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of modern application architecture patterns (service boundaries, API design, distributed systems fundamentals, event-driven patterns where appropriate).
  • Experience designing with security and privacy in mind (identity/access, data protection, threat-aware design, operational controls).
  • Working knowledge of DevOps and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, IaC, release governance, operational readiness).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to drive decisions in complex environments.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with AWS in a hybrid or multi-cloud environment (asset).
  • Exposure to modern data platforms and tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Python (asset).
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications (incremental re-architecture, platform migrations).
  • Certifications in Azure (and/or AWS) architecture.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
Salary Range:

CA$145,000 to CA$160,000 annually, 7-10% performance bonus, with final compensation determined by your qualifications, expertise, experience, and the role's scope.

Of Note:
  • Completed background checks will be required before the start date if you are selected as a winning candidate.
While we strive to respond to all applicants, please understand that due to the high volume of applications we receive, providing individual feedback or responses to every candidate may not be feasible.
