
Solutions Architect (Toronto, remote)

Our client in Toronto, a financial services organization, is seeking a Solutions Architect with deep expertise in application architecture within a Microsoft-centric environment. The successful candidate will design and govern scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across Azure, working closely with product and engineering teams while ensuring compliance, privacy, and governance expectations are met in a regulated setting.
This is a permanent, full-time role. Fully remote within Canada, but you'll need to work Eastern Time business hours. Slight preference for candidates in or around the Toronto area.
Key Responsibilities:
CA$145,000 to CA$160,000 annually, 7-10% performance bonus, with final compensation determined by your qualifications, expertise, experience, and the role's scope.

Key Responsibilities:
- Architecture & Solution Design: Define and deliver robust, scalable, and secure solution architectures for business capabilities (e.g., onboarding, customer experiences, workflow automation, governance-driven features).
- Azure-first Architecture Patterns: Establish and apply Azure-first patterns and reference architectures (identity, networking, secrets, resiliency, observability, performance) for modern application delivery.
- Cross-Functional Delivery Collaboration: Partner with product, design, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to shape requirements into executable architecture, delivery plans, and clear technical direction.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Guide engineering teams through architecture decision-making, conduct design reviews, and raise engineering maturity through standards and best practices.
- Governance, Risk, and Compliance: Ensure solutions align with architecture governance and regulatory expectations, including security standards, privacy requirements, and compliance obligations relevant to financial services (e.g., MFDA, PIPEDA, Law 25).
- Data-Aware Architecture: Collaborate with data/platform teams on solution designs that touch data governance, quality, and lifecycle management, ensuring application decisions support enterprise data controls (without turning the role into a "data architect" job in disguise).
- Vendor & Third-Party Systems: Provide architecture oversight for vendor platforms and third-party applications, including solution evaluations, design alignment, delivery coordination, and shared accountability.
- DevOps & Delivery Enablement: Champion modern delivery practices including Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD (e.g., Azure DevOps), ensuring solutions are buildable, deployable, and operable.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in solution architecture, with a strong emphasis on application architecture in enterprise environments.
- Financial services industry experience (mandatory).
- Strong hands-on experience designing and delivering solutions on Azure.
- Proven ability to align business priorities to technical roadmaps, balancing delivery speed with security, quality, and long-term maintainability.
- Experience leading architecture governance and design reviews across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of modern application architecture patterns (service boundaries, API design, distributed systems fundamentals, event-driven patterns where appropriate).
- Experience designing with security and privacy in mind (identity/access, data protection, threat-aware design, operational controls).
- Working knowledge of DevOps and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, IaC, release governance, operational readiness).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to drive decisions in complex environments.
- Experience with AWS in a hybrid or multi-cloud environment (asset).
- Exposure to modern data platforms and tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Python (asset).
- Experience modernizing legacy applications (incremental re-architecture, platform migrations).
- Certifications in Azure (and/or AWS) architecture.
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
