Hire Business Analysts from Canada, Latin America, and the US
Hire a business analyst who turns what your business needs into requirements your developers can build. We find the right person, or build your entire team, in Canada, Latin America, or the US, on a contract, permanent, or fractional basis.
Business analysts, screened by business analysts
DevEngine is a Vancouver-based IT recruitment and staffing firm. We recruit business analysts from Canada, Latin America, and the US for contract, permanent, or fractional roles. Most of these searches are for projects where the requirements are the risk, such as a system replacement, a process redesign, or a new product built on top of existing systems. A senior business analyst screens every candidate before you see one. You manage the day-to-day work. We handle contracts, HR, and admin.
The role
A business analyst defines what the solution has to do
A business analyst works out what the business actually needs before a team builds or buys anything. They talk to the people who do the work, map how the process runs today and how it should run, and turn that into requirements developers and vendors can build against. Through delivery, they answer questions about intent and check that what ships solves the original problem.
Typical outputs include current and future process maps, business and functional requirements, user stories with acceptance criteria, data and integration requirements, and user acceptance testing (UAT) plans run with the people who will use the system.
The role is often confused with two others, and organizations define all three differently. In general:
Business analyst
- Focus
- What a process or system has to do to meet a business need
- Core question
- What does the business need, and how will we know the solution delivers it?
- Typical outputs
- Process maps, requirements, user stories, UAT plans
- Works most with
- Business stakeholders, end users, developers, and vendors
- Often brought in when
- A system replacement or process change needs clear requirements
Product owner
- Focus
- Which backlog items the team builds next
- Core question
- What should the team build next, and is it ready?
- Typical outputs
- A prioritized backlog and accepted increments
- Works most with
- The development team, sprint to sprint
- Often brought in when
- A Scrum team needs one owner for backlog priorities
Data analyst
- Focus
- What the data says about performance or behavior
- Core question
- What happened, and why?
- Typical outputs
- Reports, dashboards, analyses
- Works most with
- Business leaders and data teams
- Often brought in when
- Decisions need evidence from data the business already has
If the open question is product direction and strategy, see Hire Product Managers. If the gap is delivering a defined project, see Hire Project Managers. If the need is analyzing data to explain performance, see Hire Data Analysts.
When to hire
When you need a business analyst
The need usually shows up as one of these situations:
Developers keep building the wrong thing.
Requirements arrive as one-line requests, and rework shows up in testing or after launch.
A system replacement is on the table.
Before you choose a vendor or start a build, someone has to document what the current process does and what the new one must do.
Every department wants something different.
Stakeholders disagree on the process, and no one has mapped where the real conflicts are.
Users reject what was delivered.
The system works as specified, but not the way people actually do their jobs.
Need a different role?
If the open question is product strategy and what to build next quarter, hire a product manager. If the work is analyzing data to explain performance, hire a data analyst. We recruit for both roles.
Our screen
What our senior business analysts look for
Most candidates can write a requirements document. Fewer can find the requirement no one mentioned until it broke something. That's why every candidate is screened by a senior business analyst, not a recruiter matching keywords.
Getting past the first answer
We ask how they uncovered a need stakeholders didn't state at first. A strong business analyst asks why until the real problem shows up.
Requirements developers can build from
We ask them to walk through a user story or requirement they wrote, and how they knew it was testable.
Resolving stakeholder conflicts
We ask about two departments that wanted different things, and how they got to a decision without picking a side.
Fluency with your constraints
A business analyst who has worked on ERP, regulated, or data-heavy systems reasons differently from one who hasn't. We weight that context, not only certifications.
Candidates who transcribe requests without questioning them, write requirements no one can test, or can't explain a trade-off they helped stakeholders make are screened out. Your interviews focus on fit, not filtering.

How a business analyst search runs
You brief us on the process or system involved, who the stakeholders are, and what has to change.
We source for your role in Canada, Latin America, or the US, not from a bench.
A senior business analyst screens each candidate. Someone who does the same work, not a recruiter matching keywords.
You choose who to interview and who to hire.
You direct the work. On contract and fractional engagements, DevEngine holds the contract and handles payroll and compliance. On a permanent hire, the business analyst joins your payroll.
If the placement isn't working, we replace the candidate: within two weeks on contract, or under the 180-day prorated guarantee on a permanent hire.
FAQ
Business analyst hiring questions
How much does it cost to hire a business analyst?
Cost depends on four things: seniority, domain and systems experience, the market you hire from, and the engagement model. Hiring in Latin America typically costs 35–40% less than comparable North American hires. For salary benchmarks across technology roles, download the Canada Salary Guide or the Latin America Salary Guide. DevEngine quotes against your actual brief on the first call.
Which certifications and skills do business analysts bring?
Common certifications come from IIBA: the Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA), the Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA), the Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), and the Agile Analysis Certification (AAC). Many business analysts also use SQL to check data and BPMN to model processes, and they work in the requirements and documentation tools your teams already use. Certifications show method knowledge, but not whether someone can find the real requirement. That's what the senior business analyst screen tests.
Do business analysts work in Agile teams?
Yes. In Agile teams, a business analyst usually works alongside the product owner: breaking work into user stories, writing acceptance criteria, and answering the team's questions during the sprint. On waterfall or vendor-led projects, the same skills go into requirements documents and UAT. We match candidates to the way your teams deliver.
Can I hire a fractional business analyst?
Yes. A fractional business analyst works part-time, on an hourly or monthly cadence, inside your team and tools. Companies often use one for discovery before a build, a requirements review before choosing a vendor, or UAT support near go-live. DevEngine places fractional business analysts from Canada, Latin America, and the US.
Should I hire a business analyst from Canada, Latin America, or the US?
Companies often choose Canada or the US when the role needs local market knowledge, regular in-person time, or a base in that country. Latin America offers a wider pool and more seniority for the budget, with working hours within 2 hours of US Eastern. DevEngine can run the search across all three markets so you can compare candidates.
Can a business analyst work with a DevEngine Engineering POD?
Yes. A business analyst can sit inside an Engineering POD or work alongside one. You choose the POD's composition and direct the work. The business analyst defines the requirements and acceptance criteria, and the engineers build against them on your sprint cadence, in your tools.
